IRCC publishes the results of every Express Entry draw on its website, typically within a day of the draw occurring. Understanding the patterns in those draws. cutoff scores, number of invitations, draw frequency, and category-based trends. helps candidates in the pool gauge when they might receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) and whether their current CRS score is competitive.
How Express Entry Draws Work
In each draw, IRCC sets a minimum CRS score cutoff. Every candidate in the pool at or above that score receives an ITA. The cutoff is determined after IRCC decides how many ITAs to issue. they rank all candidates in the pool and the score of the last candidate selected becomes the cutoff for that draw.
If two candidates share the same CRS score and one cannot be selected due to the draw limit, a tie-breaking rule applies: the candidate who submitted their Express Entry profile earlier is selected first.
All-Program vs. Category-Based Draws
Since May 2023, IRCC has been conducting two types of draws:
- All-program draws: All candidates in the Express Entry pool, regardless of which program they qualify for, are eligible. These draws tend to have higher CRS cutoffs because the pool of eligible candidates is larger.
- Category-based draws: Only candidates whose NOC occupation falls within a designated category, or who meet French-language proficiency thresholds, are eligible. Because the eligible pool is smaller, CRS cutoffs are often significantly lower than all-program draws.
Current Category-Based Draw Categories (2025)
IRCC announced the following categories for 2025:
- French language proficiency (CLB 7 or higher in French)
- Healthcare occupations (physicians, nurses, allied health workers)
- STEM occupations (engineers, computer scientists, data specialists)
- Trade occupations (electricians, plumbers, welders, carpenters)
- Transport occupations (truck drivers, aircraft pilots, ship officers)
- Agriculture and agri-food occupations
- Education occupations (teachers, education assistants)
IRCC can adjust which categories are used and how frequently they are drawn. The category list is reviewed periodically and can expand or contract based on labour market needs.
2025 Draw Trends: What the Data Shows
Across 2025 draws through early 2026:
- All-program draw cutoffs have generally ranged from 470 to 525 CRS points
- French-language category draws have had cutoffs as low as 379 CRS points
- Healthcare category draws have had cutoffs in the 430–470 range
- STEM draws have generally tracked closer to all-program cutoffs, around 480–510
- Trade and transport draws have ranged from 400 to 450
- Draw frequency has averaged approximately one draw every two weeks, alternating between all-program and category-based
These figures are illustrative of historical trends and will not perfectly predict future draws. IRCC does not pre-announce draw cutoffs. Use the official IRCC draw history for current results.
PNP Draws
PNP-specific draws have their own cutoffs. In 2025, provincial nominee draws in the Express Entry pool have consistently had cutoffs at or near 700 CRS points. This makes sense. candidates with a provincial nomination already have 600 CRS points added to their score, so even a candidate with a relatively weak base profile (say, 110 CRS points before the nomination) would score 710 and receive an ITA.
What CRS Score Do You Need?
There is no single answer. it depends on which draw type you would qualify for and IRCC's draw schedule at any given time. As a rough guide:
| Draw Type | Approximate 2025 CRS Range |
|---|---|
| All-program | 470–525 |
| French language | 370–410 |
| Healthcare | 430–470 |
| STEM | 475–515 |
| Trades / Transport | 400–455 |
| Agriculture / Agri-food | 380–430 |
| PNP (provincial nominee) | ~700 (with nomination) |
These ranges are based on historical draw results and are subject to change. A score above 500 is competitive across most draw types. Below 450, your best path is likely a category-based draw (if your occupation qualifies), French language proficiency, or a provincial nomination.
How to Track Draws in Real Time
IRCC publishes draw results on their official website after each draw, typically within 24 hours. Key information in each draw result includes:
- Date of the draw
- Type of draw (all-program or specific category)
- Number of ITAs issued
- Minimum CRS score (the cutoff)
- Tie-breaking rule date (the date at which, if your score equals the cutoff, your profile must have been submitted by to receive an ITA)
How Long Until You Receive an ITA?
There is no guaranteed timeline. Candidates with CRS scores well above the current cutoff may receive an ITA in the next draw. Candidates near the cutoff may wait months or longer. Candidates well below recent cutoffs should focus on improving their score. see our guide on how to improve your CRS score.
The number of ITAs per draw has varied significantly, from a few hundred to several thousand. IRCC's annual immigration targets and the composition of the Express Entry pool both influence how aggressively IRCC draws candidates.
